Mrs. Baker Gets Carried Away on Read Across America Day!
Danebo celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 2nd. All students and staff got to enjoy wearing our pajamas and getting to read three separate times during the day. During our first session, each classroom had a special guest reader, that included a couple firefighters, Superintendent Colt Gill, various members of the district office staff and Danebo classified staff, who read books to students. Many classrooms enjoyed creating Cat in the Hat bowties and other crafts inspired of the Dr. Seuss books. it was great fun for all!
OBOB
This has been such an exciting OBOB year at Danebo. The kids have been reading so many books and remembering so many details. I think they all had a lot of fun and we really enjoyed seeing all of the excitement the kids had over the books. The books were great and the competition was fierce. We have completed our battling and are ready for the District competition Monday, March 1st at Powers Auditorium. Then it’s on to Regionals in Springfield on Saturday, March 13th. Our winning team, the Chipmunks (Ari Thein, Vanessa Gillis, Daisy Cano Ruiz, and Grace Rosier) will be battling at Powers Auditorium and in Springfield. Congratulations to all 34 kids that participated in OBOB this year! A special thanks goes out to our wonderful volunteers Jeanne Haslip (retired teacher from Danebo that puts in many hours giving book talks, snacks and words of encouragement to all of the kids) and to Erin Cunning for giving up many lunch hours to be a “reader/judge” for our battles (who also has read many of the 16 books). I look forward to a great year again next year.

Teachers Receive Bethel Education Foundation Grants
Danebo teachers Stacey Jubb and Stacie Kapciak received a surprise presentation from members of the Bethel Education Foundation last Friday, their presence marked by the jubilant music of a WHS brass ensemble. The purpose for their visit was to award these two teachers grants for needed classroom materials. Mrs. Jubb and Miss Kapciak, along with other award recipients, wrote proposals for how they would use funds if awarded. Our Resource room will be receiving two levels of new Read Naturally curriculum to help increase reading fluency and the music room will enjoy new music materials including games, DVD's and books. CONGRATULATIONS!
Popcorn Days at Danebo
Danebo is excited about our new "Popcorn Days," that will be held on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month (unless there is no school on Friday, then it'd be on Thursday). Popcorn orders will be taken in the morning and sold for 25 cents per bag and will be delivered to classrooms by parent volunteers. PM Kg. students can order the day before. So far this year, we’ve earned $1,026.33, which is amazing! Here is a look at how some of our classrooms have spent their popcorn money:
• Indoor recess games
• Oregon Trail books for the classroom
• Math supplies
• 5th grade art supplies, snacks for parties and items for our auction that they had before the break and an upcoming one in the spring
• Supplies for gingerbread house-making party
• Timers for reading fluency activities
Thanks for making classroom wishes a reality!
