Kids and Texting
Kids and Texting
Did you know that most students who own cell phones are utilizing the text messaging feature and texting their friends? The Bethel School District needs to draw your attention to an important matter that could impact your child.
Recently the district has teamed with Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner to raise awareness of the practice of "sexting," the transmission of inappropriate photos and videos via cell phone.
Did you know:
- Sexting is becoming a more common occurrence , including here in Bethel.
- There are very serious legal, social, and emotional consequences for students who participate in sexting.
- Those convicted of violating Oregon statutes against sexting could be mandated to register as a sex offender.
Please take a moment to read the District Attorney's letter - attached below - and consider discussing this subject with your children who use cell phones and text their peers. I want all of our families to be aware of the potential implications involved should Meadow View students participate in the sharing of inappropriate material through cell phones.
